What is an American?
What is it really that makes an American an American? Is it simply enough to be born to this country of the free? many would argue that the answer to that question is yes, but things are never that simple. America was once a beacon for immigrants who dreamt of a better life when they heard our old motto of "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free", when they had nowhere else to go. But that mindset has long died out, and now we fight away those who want to come to this county to work hard to have a better life. more than can be said about many other "Americans" that were born here.
One must work to realize their American dream, and its not something that is handed out on a silver platter. Throughout American literature, media, and even real life it is easily noticeable which people strive for those dreams, and those who follow in their wake, hoping that somehow they will accomplish their own dreams while in the pursuit of another's. And when one reaches that dream, the other is left like a sightless man who has lost his seeing eye dog, blind on where to go next.
